U.S. Minutemen Gather to Sharpen Cyber Skills Needed to Face 21st Century Threats

Armor’s very own Jeffery Schilling talks to SC Magazine in an article commending Cyber Shield 2017, a training the Army National Guard and Reserve ran in order to sharpen skills and practice for situations on the cyber war front. “I believe it is a good idea to train National Guard soldiers to support our Critical Infrastructure providers with expertise in this field because they can operate under Title 32, US Code, with local and state governments, to do consequence management as a result of a Cyber Attack on an ICS that might affect public utilities such as water and electricity,” he said.

Armor Chief Security Officer Jeff Schilling talks to The Dallas Morning News about how the city should approach strengthening the its emergency siren system that set off 156 sirens across the county unexpectedly. “If I were doing the investigation, the first thing I would be looking for is former and current employees who have extensive knowledge of how the system works, or contractors or maintenance people who have worked on the system,” Schilling said. “It’s very unlikely that someone did this with their own radio gear.”

In Wake of Siren Hack, Cybersecurity Expert Calls For Vigilance

Armor’s Jeff Schilling talks to D Magazine about the siren system that simultaneously set off over 150 towers. “The way things work is similar to a pager,” he said, adding that the sirens are connected by a radio frequency from one or multiple towers. “Each of the individual towers have a code and they’re activated when they receive an individual radio prompt. I have a theory that whoever pulled this off has to have pretty intimate knowledge of how it works and the vulnerabilities.”
