Team Huddle: Fostering a Cybersecurity Culture

| Security Operations Center Director

Have you ever had a manager who rolls their eyes every time someone from a specific department sends a company-wide email, implements something new or speaks up during a meeting? Cybersecurity Training: Having “The Talk”

| Security Operations Center Director

Every organization has its list of must-have conversations with employees. Some are more difficult or necessary than others. Some are a bit more lighthearted and easy-going, but still important.   Perhaps one of the most important discussions executives can have with members of their teams is the one about cybersecurity. Kaspersky Lab recently found that employee carelessness accounted for 46% of data breaches in 2017. This […]

A Girl & Her Games: Looking Back on Computer Engineering

| Security Operations Center Director

Women make up only 29% of the science and engineering workforce, with only 10.7% focusing their careers in electrical or computer hardware engineering, according to the National Science Board’s “Science and Engineering Indicators 2016” report. Studying these statistics, it got me thinking… what was my first interaction with technology and programming? One weekend my Brownie® (girl scouts […]

The Benefits of Being Blonde: A Journey to Information Technology

| Security Operations Center Director

Life seems easier with an optimistic attitude. I’ve never actually considered myself an optimist as my internal state of being is in a constant state of worry and panic – being in a security operations role within the information technology industry. But recent pondering has led me to the conclusion that I am an inadvertent […]

Women in Technology: A Natural Fit

| Security Operations Center Director

In light of the recent repugnant comments from an engineer of the world’s preeminent search engine provider, it seems appropriate to use this vitriol as an opportunity to set the record straight.  The engineer’s diatribe not only revealed a deep-seeded personal resentment of women but brought attention to an overall misconception of the pervasiveness of […]

Part II: The Real Cost of Shadow IT

| Security Operations Center Director

It seems the verdict is still out when it comes to whether companies should embrace or brace for shadow IT. The Real Cost of Shadow IT

| Security Operations Center Director

There has been a great deal of debate about the impact of shadow IT on a company’s bottom line.  Briefly defined, shadow IT is when software, systems, or services that would normally be procured and managed through an IT department are developed, installed or used without regards to input from IT or security.  Although advocates […]
