#009 Tabar
The double headed battle axe originated from Indo-Persian sources and quickly spread through out the near and far East. This 16th Century Example is based on one from the south eastern region of Turkey. The steel head is mounted on a tubular shaft with a grip framed by a steel ring and ball butt. While there is no historical record of the double axe being used by Europeans, they certainly must have encountered it in the many clashes that occurred in the fight for the Holy Lands.
Original: c. 16th Century, Private Collection, USA.
